Excursions:
Adam and Eve - two lime kilns at Bjärsjölagård castle. The oldest
from 1865. The business was closed in the 1940s.
Ale stones - at Kåseberga is the largest stone ship in Sweden.
Controversial origin, grave or calendar? Beautifully situated
overlooking the sea.
Alnabjär - a hill near Smedstorp with remains of a stone ship from 550-800 AD and stone
settings from the Iron Age.
Andrarums alunverk - was an industrial complex between 1632-1912 that produced alum,
a substance used e.g. for tanning leather, dyeing, and paper.
Baldringestenen - west of the tower at Baldringe church is a runestone.
It is depicted in the late 17th century and was then in the cemetery wall.
It then disappeared over the years.
During a rebuild in 1885, it was found in a ditch.
It was then put in its current place.
Balkåkra kyrkoruin - the church was built in the 13th century.
The tower is late medieval.
The church was abandoned when one instead built Marsvinsholm church.
Today the tower, walls and a vault remain.
Banvallen - the Gärsnäs – S: t Olofs Railway was completed in 1901.
The traffic was shut down 1972.
The track remains as it runs the dressin and is a museum railway.
Benestads backar - is a nature reserve in southeastern Fyledalen overlooking the
valley. The fields is calcareous with marshes and dry fields, which gives
a rich flora.
Beritzholm - medieval castle which was demolished in the 1530s. Today, there
are mounds and the remains of the moat. Located at
Bjärsjölagård.
Bjersjöholm - outside Ystad was built in the 16th century,
a defense facility with four mews surrounded by a
lake in the north and otherwise by a moat.
Today, the western and eastern wings remain.
Bjäresjö kyrka - northwest of Ystad was built in the 12th century.
In the chancel and apse are chalk paintings in strong colors
from the 13th century.
The nave also has ceiling paintings, dating to the 14th century.

Bjäresjöstenen - at Bjäresjö church. The stone is mentioned in 1627
when it was in the cemetery wall, now it stands on the south
side of the church tower.
'Kåre put (this?) stone after Olfun (?) / Alfwin (?)'.
Bjärsjölagård lime quarry - limestone was mined probably here in the Middle Ages to the church
building. 1865 was lime kilns built at the castle. It was closed
down in the 1940's. Today, the quarry is filled with water.
Borstakärr - wetland at Christinehofs castle. On the footbridge over the water
and on the ridge overlooking the wetland.
Borstbäcken - a deciduous wooded stream valley to the north of
the lake Vombsjön. Here was the Battle of Borst 1644,
'färsingarnas blood colored the brook red'.
Growing Venue for ramson and oxlip.
Brösarps nora backar - rolling hillsides at Brosarp, a moorland with beautiful
vegetation.
Brösarps södra backar - hillsides with views at Brösarp. In the spring with
beautiful flora, the most well known is the cowslips.
Bäckhalladalen - nature reserve northwest Simrishamn. Sandstone with ripple
marks, ponds, grazed flat rock areas, former quarry.
Disas ting - in Svarte west of Ystad. Stone Circuit of unclear origin. Tradition
say that the Virgin Disa had a session there. Could be the remains
of a dolmen.
Drakamöllan - nature reserve south of Maglehem, a hilly moorland with typical
moorland vegetation.
Forsemölla - with a water mill, wooded stream valley with waterfalls and
rolling hills nothwest of Simrishamn.
Frualid - east of Öved church is a hill of volcanic origin,
with a steep wooded side to the lake Vassen.
Here grow perennial honesty and Woodruff.
Fyledalen... - is a broad valley south of Sjöbo, and west of Tomelilla.
Fyleverken - abandoned sand quarry in Fyledalen.
Fine quartz sand, used for glass making and paint.
The sand was formed during the jura era 150 million years ago.
Water filled sandpits. Dramatic formations.
Gislövshammar - an idyllic little village that started as a fishing
village in the 19th century. During a short period in 19th
century millstones were cut in the limestone rocks on the coast.
Out on the rocks, there are round holes after the millstones.

Glemmingestenen - is a rune stone in the cemetery wall at Glemminge church,
on the east side facing Trumlevägen. 'Sven set this stone after
Toste the sharp, his father, a very good gentleman.
May he who breaks the heap perish.'
Grevlunda gravfält - 'grove at the graves' at Vitaby is a graveyard from the first
millennium after Christ. A ship setting, a stone circle, six standing
stones.
Gyllebo borgruin - castle was built around 1540 on a promontory in Gyllebo Lake
northwest of Simrishamn. After several fires was the castle
abandoned. Today walls remind about the castle.
Gyllebosjön - northwest of Simrishamn on Österlen. Swimming and hiking
in the lush forest around the lake.
Gårdlösa skeppssättning - on a low elevation near Smedstorp consists
of two stone ships and a stone circle.
Hallamölla - water mill in Verkaån, and scenic spot with several waterfalls
with a total drop of 23 meters.
Hallsberg garden - north of Lövestad, in the garden at Möllehuset
there are strange picture stones with biblical motifs,
which the farm owner Nils Nilsson created during the
end of his life in the late 1800's.
Hammars backar - the ten kilometer Kåseberga ridge offers hills and
towards the sea a steep cliff coastline, views towards the sea and
land.
Havängsdösen - an approximately 5000 years old tomb at Haväng. A stone chamber
tomb with a central chamber with roof blocks surrounded by stones.
Beautifully situated on the Baltic Sea.

Helvetesgraven - east of Öved. A waterfilled former quarry with red sandstone.
The sandstone was formed during the Silurian more than 400 million years
ago. As this was a shallow seabed.
Herremannabron - is a stone vault bridge from 1850 at Östra Vemmenhög.
Built in two bridge spans in a technolog without murtur.
Near the bridge stands a rune stone,
which is in its original location.
Humlarödshus fälad - is a species-rich nature reserve on Romeleåsen. Among other
cows, oaks, orchids come together at the pasture, overlooking Vomb
valley.
Hylkan - south of Brantevik is an area of pasture and beach meadows.
Here are traces of mining holes, where one first took silver and lead
and later flourit.
Hästhagen - nature reserve at Svaneholm castle north of Skurup is a beech clad
hill with nice flora.
Högasten - in a field islet by the road between Södra Åsum
and Övedskloster is a burial ground with three raised stones.
Hörte ruin - it was popular to have a ruin on their lands,
if you had no one, you built one.
In 1907 the owner at Dybäck's castle built
the ruin that stands at Hörte.
Impan - nature reserver west of Simrishamn.
In the reserve is a 15 meter high fault cliff.
Minerals have been mined here since the 16th century,
traces of the mining remain.
Most of the reserve consists of pasture,
with a thin layer of soil and exposed outcrops.
Jungfrukällan - at Sankt Olof on Österlen. Well sprung at the site where a
maid was killed by a rejected knight.

Jätteleden - at Simrishamn.
The Jätteledan trail passes three ancient monuments
from different times: Pittjestenen is an erected stone from the Iron Age,
Stenstuan a megalithic tomb from the Stone Age and
Kvejsahöj which is a burial mound from the Bronze Age.
Kaffestugan Alunbruket - coffee cottage in a half-timbered house which was built in the
beginning of the 18th century as a housing for workers at Andrarums
Alunbruk. East of Christinehof castle.

Kolerakyrkogården i Baskem¨lla - In the 1850s cholera raged in Sweden.
In Baskemölla ten people died in September 1855 of the disease.
A memorial was erected in 1943 with the names of the deceased.
Kulturens Östarp - south of Veberöd is a living museum in the middle of the
cultural landscape with agricultural environment from the 1830s and the
1930s.

Kåseberga - nice fishing village east of Ystad offering fish restaurant with
shop, view of the sea, and Ales stones.
Landskapslaboratoriet - in the southern part of Snogeholm's hiking area.
Different species of forests to study how they are affected
and grow depending on the surroundings.
Lindskogen - old mixed forest with hornbeam, oak, Small-leaved lime and beech.
Woodpecker's favorite, it says. Nothing about bumblebees favorite.
Linneskogen - north of Sjöbo. Hardwood forest where the soil is stained
during the spring of wood and yellow anemones.
Also hepatica can be found.
Listarum - on Österlen, among former quarries. Maybe you can find
fossils from the Ordovician 450 million years ago.
Listarumsåsen - forested ridges north of Smedstorp. In the spring the ground is
covered with anemones.
Marsvinsholms skulpturpark - northwest of Ystad show during summers sculptures in the
park. New exhibition each year.
Nedraby church ruin - south of Tomelilla. Erected in the 1200s.
Was abandoned in 1635. The last pastor grave stone's are in the tower.
Some other old tombstones.
The ruin is today used for baptisms, weddings, funerals.
Prästens badkar - south of the bay is a unique half a billion years old
geological formation, which is said to have been named after a
priest who used it as a bathtub. Also called
rose stone after its shape.
Ramnakullabackarna - a small nature reserve at Blentarp on eastern slope of
Romeleåsen, with a creek valley and sweeping views.
Ravlunda church - from about 1200. Best known for the author Fritiof Nilsson
Pirate tombstone.
Rydsgårds skog - north of Rydsgård with a four kilometer walking trail past a
rune stone and a view.
Sankt Olofs källa - holy well a few hundred meters south of the church in Saint
Olaf. Was a center of Sankt Olof cult.
Simrishamn church - St. Nicholas Church, originally probably a fish chapel
consisting of the current choir. Since then extended. Gravestones in the
church floor. Church walls of quartzite.

Simris strandängar - nature reserve north of Brantevik,
dry meadows and marshes with rich flora.
On the rocky hills there are ripple marks,
500 million years old solidified waveforms
in the sandy sea bottom of the past.
Sisselas källa - in Borrby, where according to the legend of the maiden Sissela
and King Borre, a spring sprang up where Sissela was killed.
Sjörups kyrka - northwest of Ystad, was built around 1150-70.
It became too small in the 19th century and fell into disrepair.
During the 1930s and onwards, the church was renovated
Sjörupstenen - at the gate to Sjörup's church.
In the early 19th century, it was used as a building material
to a bridge, it was then blown up in six parts.
In the 1990s, it was put back together.
Skårbystenen - is a runestone at the church in Skårby.
The inscription is: Aute set this stone after Håkon.
Skönabäck - a nature area north of Skurup is a
deciduous forest next to Borgasjön and Skönabäcks manor.
It is a small area with some marked paths through the forest.
Stenkilsristningen - is a rock carving in a meadow between Simrishamn and Brantevik.
Ships, people with axes, horses, wheel crosses and cup marks
on a stone slab.
Stenhed - at Gärsnäs. A large ship of 52 x 14 meters, 30 stones.
In the southeastern tip are three stones in a row within the
ship's setting. A grave site from the late Iron Age about 600-1000 AD.
On a stone are rock carvings in the form of bowl pits.
Stenshuvud - wellknow nationalpark south of Kivik. View, beach, nature.
Stjärneholm - just west of Skurup. The castle was probably built in the 1550s, and was demolished in the early 1600s.
The ruins are surrounded by an earth embankment and a moat. Of the castle remains only a few stone walls.

Stora Köpingestenen - is a runestone in the cemetery by the aisle southeast
of Stora Köpinge church with a view over fields.
'Vrest and Näck and Kruse raised
this stone after Apa (el Ebbe), their comrade, good fighter.'
Stora Köpinge kyrka - was built in the 12th century and was later built on.
In the eastern part of the church, there are medieval Church murals.

Södra Åsum water-mill - at Åsumsån outside Sjöbo was built during the 1860s.
Water comes from a gutter from Åsumsån.
The last miller leased the mill 1930-1965.
Södra Åsumsbron - a stone arch bridge with four arches
and a small dug gutter that goes to the watermill downstream.
The bridge was built in 1764 by Hans Ramel, Övedskloster.
The bridge was taken out of use in 1936.
Tjörnedala - at Baskemölla north of Simrishamn is a recreation area.
Nice pastures and meadows with among others orchids and cowslip.
Tommarps klosterruin - in the medieval city of Tumathorp,
1155 was founded a Premonstratenser monastery.
During the Reformation, the monastery was shut down in 1540.
Not much remains today.
Vallabacken - at Vitabys southern entrance is a circular stone clad ruin
mound after a castle probably built during 110- or 1200's.
Vitaby kyrka - along the museum railway is a small platform by the church.
The church is beautifully situated on a hill with the sea in the background.
The oldest parts of the church are from the end of the 12th century.
Mural painting, votive ship, triumphal crucifixes and baptismal font
are among the inventory.
Vitabäckshällorna - nature reserve in Fyledalen, with old-growth forest, birdlife and
flora. In the eastern part is a health well.
Vitemölla - recreation area north of Kivik with beaches, pine forest,
deciduous forest, sandy steppe, hilly landscape with flowers.
Vitemölla - Brösarp - walk along the beach from Vitemölla to Haväng. On the
hills south of the river Verkeån to Brösarp.
Vollsjö hembageri - on the square in Vollsjö with intact decor from the
1950s.

Västra Nöbbelövstenen - is a large run stone at Västra Nöbbelöv church.
It has been split long and used for a while
as gate posts at the parsonage.
Now it is assembled and stands in a lawn.

Axes rock - south of Simrislund, on the road betweem Simrishamn and
Brantevik, is a flat rock with rock carvings.
On the is a large amount of carvings.
Ängakåsen - burial ground south of Kivik, with a stone ship, a large
(Monetary tomb) and several smaller stone settings and two
remains of prehistoric buildings.
Öradekaren - fish catch facility in Verkeån at Haväng. From the
1600s. Here was caught trout.

Östra Herrestadstenen - at Östra Herrestad's church stands this runestone,
dated to approx. 1000 AD.

who is probably a high-ranking person.
Öved church - a small whitewashed church with no tower, built in 1759-61.
