Drotten churchruin
in central Lund is the remains of a stone church built in the 1000's and was demolished during the Reformation. It was found during excavations around 1980 and was after many discussions built into the house that was built on the site.

December 21, 2012: From 1100 to 1250 was built 27 stone churches in Lund. In the middle of 1000's was the first stone church built in Lund, Drotten called. Drotten is a Scandinavian word for ruler, the church was consecrated to the trinity. 1150 became the church abbey to a premonstratenser monestary. In the early 1300s it became a parish church when the monastery moved to Öved. At the Reformation in the 1500s was the church. The remains was excavated around 1980, when it caused a fight. what to do with the ruin? Remove, preserve? It was finally built into the basement of the new house in Kattesund, and is now a museum. On one wall is a plaque of the church. The church is marked by cobblestones in Kattesund. One can from Kattesund look down on the ruins through a window. The museum is entered through a restaurant, now called the Gattostretto, then stairs or the elevator down to it.

Through the roof can one see the restaurant. Oops, a woman in a skirt pass up there, best to look at the ruins instead. Mirrors give the illusion that one is seeing the whole church, though it is only one half that exists. The base to the baptismal font stands in the nave. One can make out the walls of the church parts, apse, cross, crypt, nave, and the west tower.

At the site was before Drotten an old stave church, the first church in Skåne was built around 990. This is stated on an information sign. In a booth are some preserved wooden sticks from another wooden church that stood nearby. Up in Kattesund its outline is marked in the groundcover. Models of how the Drottens church may have appeared in other booths. On the wall runs a runner with historical events since the church's inception. At the excavation some coffins were found, e.g. the brick coffins. On a pole is marked where the ground surface was at the time when the church came into being.

It drops in some visitors during the hour I walk around. It is a free entrance. It's worth a little visit. I leave the ruin for a cappuccino in the restaurant. Buying a leaflet about the church. I sit at a table so I can look down on the ruins through the window in the floor.
