Tegnérmuseet
Esaias Tegner major Swedish author and poet in the early 1800s, a professor at Lund University. His home in Lund is now a museum about him. June 2, 2012: It's not often I go out and have lunch. Bengtsson's cheese has a new restaurant part that is open for lunch today. Having a good pasta with melted cheese and ham. Stora Gråbrödersgatan is nearby. Here lived Esaias Tegnér 1813-1826. In the remaining house, built in the 1700s, is a small museum. Open today after a fireplace renovation and 150-year anniversary of the museum. Lots of people in the dining room, where it is held a talk about when Frithiof saga became opera. This is followed by a guided tour of the museum and Esaias's life. The guide tells enthusiastically. Esaias is portrayed by an actor who reads from his works, including his perhaps best known The Eternal and one that I think I hear is called Pork Sausage. He coined the term "Academic peasant village" of Lund. Then it was a farming village, is true today as well. Of the once great house remain this small house with four rooms. The workroom was his poet lair, with authentic furnishings. On the wall hangs a portrait of his wife. The kitchen is quite spartan. Brick floor from when the house was built. In the pantry are stands with his belongings, including his laurel wreath. In the dining room is a replica of the statue that stands on Tegnérsplatsen at Kulturen. Behind is a copperplate, which is a gift from Carl XIV Johan. Tegnér himself is hanging on the wall. In one corner is the newly refurbished fireplace. My tour is over, now begins a lecture "Tegnér - no longer a part of the school's cultural heritage?". That he is not so well known among today's youth is shown by the age distribution among the audience. 1826 he moved to Växjö, as bishop there. The culture in Lund runs the museum, more about the museum and its opening hours on their page about Tegnérmuseet. |
