January 2011: There is an
ongoing Handball World Championship for men in town. Briefly about my
experiences of the festivities.
Lightings
The lightings will lead visitors from the station to the Fan Zone at
the Mejeriet
and the Arena where the games are played. I begin with another sort of
culture. In
the gallery Ängeln show Sydsvenskan photographer Ingemar D
Kristiansen
nature photos. I whish I could take such pictures. A wonderfully
captured meeting between an eagle and crow. In the gallery Jäger
&
Jansson are the jazz photos, Monica Zetterlund farewell tour, she
suffers by
her bad back. I went to see her, it was not the same Monika any longer.
Time for
the lighting at the street Nygatan down to Stadsparken, street lights
in various
colors. In Stadsparken guide lights in the trees towards the Arena, or
to Mejeriet
where it's a Fan Zone, the matches in the stadium will be shown on big
screens and you can eat something. Closed today, tomorrow it is open.
Go home
in the evening darkness. The cathedral is dark. The fog is dimly lit
red.
Ramklints
Banners advertising the handball World Cup is covering Stadshallens
facade. Ramklints pastry at Mårtenstorget tempts with a Cup-cake.
Can not say
what is in it. It is moderately cool, refreshing, and good. Otherwise
it is
Fastlagsbulle period. In the display window they are shown in a line. I
have already committed the
premiere, right here at Ramklints. Sat also at the same place, at the
corner
of window and a wall of paintings in naive style. Bicycles past the
cathedral
lilacs on the way home. They want to move them and make way for an
unobstructed
view, someone has hung up "Let Stand".
Mejeriet
Bikes down to Mejeriet. Today it is open. Order a golden pot and a beer
at
the bar. This stew is inspired by Thailand's chicken and vegetables. I
sit
down with the beer at a table in the stands. The big screen display the
game
in the Arena, showing Bahrain - Germany. There is a penalty for
Germany,
who as expected is in a big lead. Germany wins the match. My pot of gold
arrive, it is moderately strong, tastes great. "Gold" means
Sweden to
take gold. Next game shown is Tunisia - Spain. There is something wrong
with
the transfer, the image is pixellated. A true work of art.
Surreallistic. The image
stabilize. It's like sitting in the Arena, I think so though
I've never been there. I enjoy food and game. Tunisia have their
revolution at
home, here they make a good game against Spain. It is unfortunately not
a lot
of people, neither here or in the Arena. After dinner do I have a
glass of red wine. In the end Spain succeed to win with 21-18. After the
match play "Gaby and the Guns" on the small stage. Really good to mine,
unfortunately unmusical, brain. A mixture of folk/rock/pop music.
