May 24, 2025
In the botanical garden is the exhibition "Broken greenhouse", May 24 to September 20, 2025. "Gestalted climate futures" is an attempt to present several potential climate futures. Five works that symbolize 5 different scenarios for the year 2100 according to the UN SSP1-SSP5, scattered at appropriate intervals.

On the grass outside the yellow villa is "SSP1: The Pipedream", a greenhouse tube that rotates once every 24 hours. Time determines the function, for example, you can go to bed only at 11 pm, and at 7 am you fall out of bed. Then breakfast and the day's activities until it's time to go to bed again. Although today the mechanics are broken. In this, best, scenario, we live in a world with circular life and economy. The green way.

I'm going in the wrong order and then going to the worst scenario first. "SSP5: Preppers Delight", a bunker-like greenhouse that it is very hot in. I don't want to live like that. Here I meet a professor at SMHI, talk to him a bit about those who don't believe in/care about climate change, i.e. those on the far right. If they get their way, this is what it will be like. But they don't understand, economic growth above all. Warming of 3.3-5.3 degrees.

Next is "SSP4: A Road Divided", is a broken greenhouse with desert-like content. Inequality between rich and poor. Corresponds to warming of 2.0-3.4 degrees.

"SSP3: The Line Chart Greenhouse", relates to 5 climate greenhouse stations in Abisko, sensors in them record temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide. The values are sent here where they are interpreted and curtains of glass beads are slowly built up, bead by bead. In this world it is 2.8-4.6 degrees warmer, the world is divided with a focus on national security.

"SSP2: The Redhouse", an upside-down red cabin with white trim. The national anthem from a Hesa Fredrik siren, whose frequency is linked to heat data from Abisko. Ice cubes in a champagne cooler jingle in time with the wind speed in Abisko. The warming stops at 2.7 degrees.

To cheer myself up, I walk past the handkerchief tree, which is in full bloom.

There are tawny owls in the botanical garden. Both TV and newspaper have reported on it. We drive there. Parks on Olshögsvägen. Inside the botanical garden we see a crowd looking up at the treetops. There it must be. We're going there. There is a tawny owl sitting on a branch. There are two owls and four young ones. The nest blew down in the recent storm, luckily the young had left the nest. Think we'll see a kid too.

Going around to see if we can find any hepatica. Lots of early crocus. Go to the shadow part in the north. Beautiful hellebores. There are also two flowering of Hungarian hepatica. The cafe is open on weekends. Cappuccino and pastry. Sitting outside in the sun. Great.

August 13, 2021

The tulip tree blooms behind the greenhouses. A couple asks where it is. "There, on the other side of the magnolia grove, a tree is blooming." We have a coffee in the café by the pond in front of the greenhouses. Buy flowers in the store. Head towards the Fair Trade store Klotet just outside. Along the aisle is the garden's oldest tree, a scarred white willow that stood here when the garden was moved here in the 1860s. Buy on the Klotet a blackbird made in Zimbabwe from recycled metal scraps, an art collaboration with the Danish organization "The house by the sea". oes back through Botan, a black iris and insect hotel.

Cycling down. Sets the bike at the entrance from Olshögsvägen. Goes to the cafe that just opened for the day. Stands obediently on the foot marker to keep distance in the queue. Only me in the queue. It fills up after me. Drinking cappuccino by the pond. Beautiful weather. The handkerchief tree is blooming now, we are going there. It is strewn with handkerchiefs. A man with a large lens photographs. Many bring a mobile camera. Walks past the Rock-garden to the rhodendron entrance. Some that bloom. Many peonies that bloom, including Caucasian peony. People are sitting on the grass and enjoying themselves. Going north. Under a large tree, ramsons bloom. In the north, a little hidden in front of greenhouses are flower beds where peonies and perennial honesty bloom, among other things.

Nice weather, but a bit chilly. Takes the car to the botanical garden, can not cycle or walk far. Now when when the trees are defoliated, the mistletoe in the trees is clearly visible. Its white berries hang like pearls. Beautifully. Stroll around and study what is available. A lot of others who do the same. A party has taken place outside at a table. Curious about New Zealand flax, "a very interesting plant used to weave kakahu mantle.".

August 29, 2020
The newspaper says that the dahlias are blooming. Nice weather. Cycling there. Lots of people, students have kick-in parties. Lots of people even in the café, in corona time we avoid standing in the queue. The flowerbeds with dahlias are divided into several places. This year they are out on lawns in the west, where it has been trampled after the rain. Some are outside the store. Many people walking around admiring, photographing. There should be a hundred varieties. Magnificent. We want something, go into town and buy ice cream at Stortorget. There the queue is short and outdoors, ice cream cone with saffron and Finnish licorice.

June 17, 2020
A bike ride. Sets the bike at the entrance from Olshögsvägen. Roses against the wall of the café. Lots of people in the café, in corona time we avoid standing in the queue. Walks past a clematis at the entrance to the café. Blooms in many flower beds, such as verbena, peony and Begonia. Beautiful Coleus. A fine fuchsia. Walks through the stone section, with i.a. carnation and Moses burning bush. Much more. A black iris. A nice Tamarisk stands on a lawn. Many people sit on the lawns, read, have coffee, socialize. White gaura lights up. In the northeast corner, the sphinx stands alone. Stood once (out of four) on the roof of the university building, weathered and was taken down. Found by Sten Broman and as a student joke it was set up here in 1978. Then it stood as a model for the sphinxes that have adorned on the university building again since 1994.

A short lunch visits among autumn flowers.

18 May 2011: The Dove Tree is according to the newspaper in bloom. Using my coffee break to bike to the Botanical Garden. The tree is in full bloom.

6 June 2009: I bicycle after lunch to the Botanical Garden in Lund. I put the cycle at the northern gate. I pass a flower bed with flowering poppy, Papaver bracteatum. Café Botan is open, it looks full so I'm waiting with my coffee. At the door of the greenhouse is a note saying that the Dove tree (Davidia involucrata) blossoms, the site is shown on a map. I go there passing the rock garden. Even children can have fun in a rock garden, they rush around in the aisles. There are many handkerchiefs hanging in the tree, there are equally many on the ground. The flowering is soon over. I walk back to the greenhouse. Beneath the German maple are youth sitting. I admire a lush Nepeta. Enters the greenhouse. Victoria amazonica, Chenille plant (Acalypha hispida), Beaucarnea recurvata, jungle plants, ... There is much to see. It has been biological control, quail is said to be here. On one wall hangs a disc tufa from Benestad at Fyledalen. One can see the plant fossils in it. Goes out to the Botanical Garden Café, buy sea buckthorn cheesecake and coffee. I sit down at a Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae), the orange flower matches the color of my orange buckthorn cake. In the pond-lily bloom white. Behind the greenhouse is a flowering tuliptree, whose flower is the symbol of the garden. I continue to the southern parts, where there is rabbit jumping. Fun. Pass by the "Skånska stenar", with different rock types from Scania and eras. Girls are playing "kubb" on a lawn. Passes conifer part, including black pine. A sphinx, put here by Uardakademin, stands among the trees. The sphinx was originally on the University campus house. I return home and put up the flag, it's the national day.
