Parks at Sjöstugan in Vittsjö. Having double waffle on Sjöstugan, which is beautifully situated overlooking the lake.

Then follow the bike path north to the memorial stone of Gustavus Adolphus near death experience 1612. He had been and ravaged in the region, was assaulted in Vittsjö by Danish troops. He escaped across the ice on the river, but the ice broke. Gustav was rescued by the rider Tomas Larsson. A memorial was erected in 1912. 1959 was a mass grave found next to the memorial stone, with remnants of about 220 soldiers. For these there is also a memorial.

Continuing on the path along the lake to the campsite. Ask at the reception for the redoubt and the bridge at the spot where Gustav is said to have gone through the ice. Along the road to the campsite. A nice arched bridge. Were not there 1612. In the water, there should be a rock just east of the bridge that is said to be the place. There is a a stone, maybe.

Shortly after the bridge is a narrow road south up a hill. With an information sign. Up on the hill was a redoubt. A Danish fortification during the Kalmar War 1611-13. Highly situated between two lakes and a river. It had several meters high, eight meters wide ramparts. Approximately 50 x 80 large. Surrounded by a wide moat. We can now bareley see the ramparts. They are not at all the same size anymore. The place is now used as recreation area. Overgrown with beech forests. Many walk with dogs. Walking around on a barely visible embankment. Lily of the valley has beautiful berry, but toxic.

Going back along the road. Passing a fine yellow wooden house, once one of many Pensions in Vittsjö. At the car park below Sjöstugan is a statue in memory of the time of pensions.
