A few cars in the queue for road ferry Barum - Ivö.
If none is waiting in line to the ferry, then one should call on the ferry via the phone in
waiting area. Park at the sports ground in Ivö.
After about a hundred meters towards Ivö klack is a gravel road
westward. Forbidden to drive on it, but welcome to the foot
or bicycle. Going on foot. Coming up to a deciduous forest with
hepatica and wood anemone. Where the road ends is a path to the right.
Soon you will reach the Ugnsmunnarna.
A dozen meters from the beach rises a few meter high
steep of rock from the Cretaceous period about 100 million
years ago. Some caves have given its name to the place. The caves
are younger, the water has hollowed out of them after the last ice age.
Along the precipice you can search for fossils. Here are a large number
Belemnitida, who was an octopus. The long, narrow fossils
served as balance weight. They are also called wet light, since they resemble
light. Another fossils are Brattingsborg Money, money
a lord on Brattingsborg took in from the poor and sick.
As punishment fell Brattingsborg in the lake Ivösjön and the money
was transformed. They can be found along the beaches. Actually, they're fossils
of shells from brachiopoden Crania mumulus,
with a skull-like pattern. Here should also be shark teeth.
Looking along the slope. Enters one of the caves,
it is not so deep and has two openings.
There is another one who is narrow and deep, do not go so far into it.
Outside is a fireplace. Find many Belemnitida. More difficult with
Brattingsborg Money, are those who are candidates but
a skull is hard to see. Many have a layer of gravel on it.
Trees clinging to the rock face with long roots.
Take lunch at the beach to the sound of lapping waves.
Following the slope north. Belemnitida, wood anemone, hepatica.
Going back over the precipice. An exciting place, hard to tear themselves away.
After more than three hours exploring it's time to go back
to the car. A sign where the gravel road begins thank you for shown regard
and wish to welcome back. Will just be in time to the road ferrys departure.
The area is a nature reserve so you should not dig for fossils, one can find
loose lying on the ground.
