May 2, 2025:
A tour with a friend, we are going to take a short trip in Måryd.
This time we do not take the path through the forest to
Måkullsbacken. After parking, there is a stile into
the pasture. From there you can walk to
the hill over the pasture. Below the hill, a bird cherry is in bloom.
Up on the hill with the view, there are some meadow saxifrage blossoms.
Continue down to Boijsens ponds. Walk over a stile and a bridge
to the other side of the last pond.
There is a path along the pond to the pond before.
Then the path to the pasture.
Have our coffee by the fire place by the stream.
The sun is shining. We have not met anyone.
April 27, 2025:
Have been to Måryd many times.
But have never seen that there are pasqueflower.
It may be too late, some will probably still be there, at least
seedbeds.
Follow the path towards Boijsen's ponds.
At the beginning after the parking lot, wood anemones are blooming.
The path goes up Måkullsbacken.
I suspect that the pasqueflower are on the southern slope
up towards the top of the hill.
There on the slope there are plenty of them,
most of them over-bloomed, but some are still blooming.
Continue the path down the hill to the last of Boijsen's ponds.
Oh, there are cowsips blooming.
We continue through the deciduous forest. A sheer green.
Continue out to the pasture.
Have our coffee by the fireplace by the stream downstream from the bridge.
I go for a walk upstream of the stream to
see other flowers. I don't find any. Birches bloom.
It's a nice pasture with birch and elm.

Trees
The toilet in the parking lot looks like someone blasted it.
Follow the path into the woods.
In the woods, south of the path to Boysen's pond, are two beautiful vresbokar.
The trail continue to the hill Måkullsbacken, with extensive views north.
A nice tree is used as a climbing tree.
Try it, but it's mostly for children.
Continue over the field on the hill down to Boijsen ponds.
A family grills at the brook between the ponds.
The water surface is flat, tree reflects.
Sit down on the slope from Måkullsbacken towards the ponds.
Coffee without a cake.
Then back to the parking lot.
June 10, 2017:
Quaking-grass and frog serenade.
Buying cookies at the home bakery in Södra Sandby.
Plenty of space in the parking lot to Måryd's nature reserve.
Follow the path that goes into the woods.
What is the sound of the pond?
Frog Serenade!
Take the path east there.
Serenade. Edible frog I think.
See several in the pond.
Listen for a while.
Child with hoop-net is coming.
The frogs are silent.
Goes to the pasture.
Away to the western part.
Lay the blanket among the Quaking-grass at the brook.
Enjoying the weather, nature, coffee and cake.
Proceedes to the pond in the northwest.
No frogs.
Cows are staring from the other side of the pond.

Vresbokar
The best time of year to study vresbokar is during the leafless
period. Vresbokar ('Fagus silvatica v. tortuosa') is a mutation of the normal
beech, and immigrated
simultaneously after the ice sheet retreated. They are characterized by
strange twisted trunks and branches, umbrella crown, with multiple trunks. One
of the largest areas in Europe, perhaps largest, are in Skrylle. The
most famous is Trollskogen.
Today I walk to Måryd pasture.
Just below the stairs after the lake Skryllesjön stand two stately vresbokar
and a smaller one. Along the west slope are multiple copies. One wonders how
growth can be so chaotic. Branches twist in strange angles. To the north is
visible the pasture with his junipers. A stile leads over a stone wall. I
slide through on the flat top portion, slippery wetness. Stop at the last
moment before the wooden steps down the other side. On the other side are
several vresbokar. Ouch, there are stones wet and slippery. Trips, the balance
is not the best.
Going up on a hill and looks out over the pasture. Seeing a pond and two
solitary high vresbokar. Going away to the pond, passing a beautiful umbrella
vresbok. The pasture extends further north, more open, and without junipers
and vresbokar. Walk back, study more closely a vresbok. A rough branch
staggers forward. I have walked slowly, I like vresbokar, and the time has
gone. Must home. Can not help but stop for a while at vresbokarna at the
stairs.
August 31, 2011:
Take the car
to Skrylle, go Romundspåret to Måryds pasture. A
narrow path past the lake Skryllesjön, down to pasture is a steep
wooden staircase
in the shade of a large beech. A bumpy path between junipers. Abandon
the path and go west, to seek me upstream of the creek that supplies
Boijsens ponds. Stepping over a stone wall. It is wet land. Coming up to drier
soil with a few rocks. Up to the creek which I wade across. Follow it
upstream to a stone
wall. I walk over the stone fence at a stile. On the other side, in a
marshlands, inventory a man. The water comes partly from the quarry
further away, and one regularly check on its effect on the pasture.
Stepping over the stile again, and follows the creek that winds through
the pasture,
up to a swamp where the creek disappears. Round the swamp at the edge
of the pasture. A
large stately birch. A butterfly settles on a flower. Follows a stone
wall with a view of the pasture. Rowanberry shines bright red. Coming up to
the wooden
bridge over the stone fence against Boijsens ponds. Go down to the
creek. A
Rosebay Willowherb has left some flowers. Goes up to the bridge over
the creek, cross it
and follow the stream to the outflow from the swamp. Strolling back and
forth back up the slope. Honeysuckle clings to the junipers. It grows
blackberries, let me taste. Leaves the pasture and returns to
Skryllegården. Looking into the Visitor Centre. Eat a vegetable
pie in the
restaurant.
